Summer Skin Care Woes To Avoid
Posted by Catherine Christianson on
Each season brings new challenges and new opportunities to care for the skin a little differently. In the sunny summer months, sunscreen use is usually the main event in skin care blogs, but that’s not the only thing to keep in mind! Here are the top mistakes to avoid:
- Forgetting Sunscreen
If you don’t use makeup, finding a daily sunscreen is all you have to worry about before heading out the door. For those who do wear cover-up try to find one that offers sun protection. Broad spectrum coverage in makeup is hard to find though, so consider applying Environ broad spectrum sunscreen first as your ‘primer’ and apply your foundation afterwards.
- Only Applying Sunscreen On The Face
Oh, you thought we were done talking about sunscreen? Haha no. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to your neck and decollete as well as easily forgotten areas like around the ears, back of the neck, legs, and feet. Those areas are highly visible and all susceptible to sunburn.
- Using Sunlight To ‘Heal’ The Look Of Problematic Skin
Though the sun may seem to temporarily ‘heal’ the look of problematic skin, unprotected skin can become dry and increasingly prone to breakouts. Consistent use of an Environ Vitamin A moisturizer along with broad spectrum sun protection are advised for problematic skin types as well as for all skin types. One may consider using the Environ B-active range, as it was especially designed for problematic or sensitive skin.
- Not Exfoliating
Gentle exfoliating is an essential part of maintaining beautiful skin year round, and that goes for summer too. The buildup of sweat, sunscreen, sand and other environmental debris increase the likeliness of clogged pores and future breakouts. Some chemical-based exfoliators make the skin slightly more photosensitive after using, so never forget step #1...
- Leaving Your Accessories At Home
Hat, sunglasses, scarves, and UV protective shirts are all smart choices when it comes to staying sun safe. Plus, with the array of fashionable options available, you don’t have to tell us twice to grab our favorite sun accessories!
- Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
In extreme temperatures (hot or cold), the body works extra hard to maintain its equilibrium. That means extra hydration (H20) and topical skin care solutions become important to keeping the look of healthy, glowing skin. Two ‘hero’ Environ products to mix with your daily moisturizer include Super Moisturizer + or the Hydrating Oil Capsules.
- Scratching Bug Bites
Just like it’s not okay to scratch break-outs or cystic pimples, it’s not a good idea to scratch or pick at bug bites. This could result in bacteria and infections getting into the skin, prolonging the skin’s automatic healing process. Ice, anti-itch creams or covering the bite-area are the best steps to prevent the oh-so-tempting urge to scratch. Even better, use bug spray or protective clothing to prevent bites.
- The Feet Get The Heat
Try our fail-proof regimen for beautiful looking ‘summer-feet’ about once a week. This regimen is great year-round but especially when you get to show off in your favorite sandals during the warmer months.
- Soak feet in a tub of warm water, adding a few drops of tea tree oil
- Scrub feet until they feel smooth with the Environ AVST Hydrating Exfoliant Masque; Rinse off
- Finally, massage feet with a combination of Derma-Lac Lotion and Vitamin A, C & E Body Oil. Wrap feet with plastic film and wait 20 minutes before removing.
