DermaConcepts is proud to announce Environ RAD Sunscreen SPF 30 received DERMASCOPE’s 2019 AESTHETICIANS’ CHOICE AWARD (ACA) for Favorite Body Sunscreen!
Skin care professionals submitted nominations, fans cast the final votes. We’re honored to win the confidence of professionals and fans alike.
Environ’s new broad spectrum RAD Sunscreen SPF 30 contains micronized titanium dioxide and antioxidants to help protect your skin from the effects of both UVB and UVA rays. The American Cancer Society and the American Academy of Dermatology recommend using a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
Did you know?
• A higher SPF does not mean you can spend a longer amount of time in the sun.
• All sunscreen should be reapplied approximately every 90 minutes.
• No sunscreen is waterproof.
• SPF 30 blocks approximately 97 percent of the sun’s UVB rays.
• A higher SPF only adds a smaller percent benefit, but potentially higher chemical concentrations.
What is Photoaging?
Every time you are exposed to the sun, your skin is at risk. According to Environ founder Dr. Des Fernandes, the main reason we develop photoaging is that vitamin A in our skin is destroyed on a regular basis. Even on a cloudy day, UV light from the sun damages the vitamin A naturally found in the human body. This means we are in constant need of vitamin A repair. Dr. Des believes vitamin A is the most important molecule for healthy-looking skin. Along with your Environ vitamin A skincare routine, applying a quality broad spectrum sunscreen is essential in your efforts to have beautiful skin for a lifetime.
Is SPF 30 Enough to Protect the Skin?
SPF stands for sun protection factor or the measure of the fraction of sunburn-producing rays that are allowed to reach the skin. In the article “Sunscreen: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” in the February 2019 edition of Skin Inc., Rob and Carol Trow, CEO and President of DermaConcepts, respectively, explain, “Many people think the higher the SPF rating, the more protection you get. This is only marginally true. The difference between an SPF 100 and 50 is only 1% more protection and with the recommended SPF of 30 you obtain 96.7%.” SPF 30 or higher is recommended for use on all skin types to help protect the skin from the effects of sunburn. Unfortunately, many people mistakenly believe they can stay in the sun longer if they use a higher SPF. Most sunscreens will no longer be effective after just 90 minutes and need to be reapplied to maintain sun protection.
How to Apply Sunscreen
Sunscreen is best applied in cream or lotion form, after a moisturizer, but before makeup. Skin needs around 15 minutes to absorb the sunscreen, so applying before exposure is important. It takes 1 ounce of sunscreen, imagine filling a shot glass, to protect the average adult body. Be sure to cover all skin that will be exposed to the sun. There is no such thing as waterproof; reapply every 90 minutes.
